My name is Ariel McLanahan, and I am proud to serve Duncan, South Carolina as a local State Farm Agent. I opened my agency in October of 2023 following a nearly 8-year career as an agent team member. Being selected by State Farm for my own agency is something I am very proud of. It’s not a business you can buy. Being selected is an honor that requires demonstrated knowledge, skills and above all a passion for helping people. I take the privilege of being an agent as a great responsibility. It is my job to provide outstanding service to both our customers and our community.

A big part of that service is education. I lost my father to pancreatic cancer at when I was 11 years old. The rest of my childhood was then spent at or below the poverty line. I experienced firsthand what life looks like after the primary breadwinner passes away prematurely. Following his death, my mom did an amazing job raising three kids. Her strength and sacrifice during that difficult time was remarkable. Looking back now as a tenured insurance professional, I know the options that I wish she could have had available. If there had been better education and plans, that emotionally devastating loss might have not been financially devastating as well. Today I hold myself and my team responsible for asking the difficult questions that lead customers to developing plans for their family... These are plans that can only be made before it’s too late... These are plans that protect the people who are most important to them against the most devastating risks we face in everyday life.

In addition to my passion for customers, I am just as enthusiastic about building and developing my team members. I hold their professional development in the highest regard. I know that by pouring into my staff, they will in turn be filled with the proficiency and knowledge they need to give the outstanding care to our customers. We aim to embody the characteristics of a Good Neighbor in all we do.

Community Involvement:

• I am proud to be a small business owner in Spartanburg County. I am enthusiastic about helping other small business owners succeed and especially like to support fellow women in business. Us girls have to stick together!

• Downtown revitalization is near & dear to my heart. I chose to open my office in the historic downtown area of Duncan. Our building was originally Cooley's Hardware Store. Following a fire, the building sat vacant for many years before our build out. It wasn’t the easiest option but bringing life to an old space is so important to me.

• In the words of Muhammad Ali, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.” We love to sponsor and participate in local service projects and give back to our community. I even pay my team members to volunteer four hours every month!
